UPDATE of the multitronic software is MANDATORY for 1.9TDI, 2.5TDI, 3.0 OTTO, 2.8OTTO
when upgrading from 6clutch plate to a 7clutch plate. All other engine types benefit significantly
from updates to their software and it’s highly recommended.
EX. AUDI A4 2.5TDI convertible  with a 6plate clutch and GEC box looks like this:

Updating to 6plate clutch of 01J 927 156 FA with software 0030 to a
7plate clutch turns to 8E2 910 155F with software 0020.

Newer software releases by manufacturer will reflect only in change of the prefix. ex. 0020 to 0030 etc.
